FAQs

Do you offer in-person and virtual visits? Yes. Dr. Julia offers both in-person and virtual appointments. In-person visits are located conveniently in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and virtual visits are available for added flexibility and continuity of care.
What kind of psychiatric care do you offer? TideandMindDO provides comprehensive, whole-person psychiatric care for women. Treatment may include psychotherapy, thoughtful medication management, lifestyle and metabolic considerations, and integrative treatment planning. Care is individualized, collaborative, and intentionally paced.
How will I know if this practice is a good fit for me? This practice is often a good fit for individuals seeking thoughtful, individualized psychiatric care who value time, collaboration, and whole-person understanding. If you’re unsure, the intake consultation offers an opportunity to explore fit transparently before committing to ongoing care.
What makes this practice different? This practice prioritizes time, listening, and relationship-based care. Appointments are designed to allow for careful understanding rather than rushed decision-making. Treatment focuses on the whole person—not just symptoms or diagnoses.
Are you a concierge practice? No. TideandMindDO is not a concierge practice. While visits are longer and more individualized than typical settings, care is provided through scheduled appointments within an outpatient private practice model.
How do I schedule, reschedule, or cancel an appointment? All scheduling changes—including booking, rescheduling, and cancellations—are completed through the secure patient portal using the hyperlink provided.
What happens during the first appointment? The first visit is a comprehensive intake consultation focused on understanding your concerns, history, and goals. It also provides an opportunity for you and Dr. Julia to determine whether ongoing care is the right next step.
Why is the initial consultation 75 minutes? The intake consultation is a required 75-minute initial visit before medications, therapy, or other treatments can be offered. This appointment allows for comprehensive information gathering and helps determine whether you and Dr. Julia mutually agree that your needs align with the services offered at TideandMindDO. Completion of the intake does not guarantee acceptance into ongoing care.
Why are visits longer than typical psychiatry appointments? Understanding mental health and underlying biologic (medical issues) that may contribute to ones overall health and functioning requires time and detailed listening. Longer visits allow for comprehensive assessment, careful listening to prior medications, medical history, and psychiatric history. Getting to know you, and you as a whole are essential to craft a shared decision-making treatment plan and reduce rushed conclusions and trial-and-error approaches that are unfortunately common in the current medical care model that is often seen (i.e., the 10 minute medication check.)
Insurance, Billing, and Payment
Do you take insurance? TideandMindDO does not participate with commercial insurance plans and does not accept Medicare or Medicaid. Operating outside of insurance-based models allows visits to be unhurried and focused entirely on care.
Can I use out-of-network benefits? Many patients choose to use out-of-network benefits if their plan includes them. You may request a superbill (detailed receipt) to submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.
What is a superbill? A superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. It includes visit details and appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis code(s). Reimbursement varies by plan and insurer, and TideandMindDO does not file claims on your behalf.
Is a credit card required to schedule an appointment? Yes. A valid credit card is required to be kept securely on file prior to scheduling. Your card is charged at the end of each visit, and you’ll receive a receipt for your records. This policy helps reserve dedicated appointment time and keeps visits focused on clinical work rather than administrative tasks.
Treatment Approach and Medication
Do you offer psychotherapy? Yes. Psychotherapy is a core component of care at TideandMindDO and may be offered alone or in combination with medication management, depending on your needs and goals.
Do you prescribe medication? Yes, when clinically appropriate. Medication decisions are made thoughtfully and collaboratively, based on a comprehensive evaluation and ongoing discussion. Medication is never the sole focus of care and is not prescribed without careful review.
What if I’m unsure about medication? That is completely okay. Medication is discussed thoughtfully and is never required. Treatment planning respects your preferences, readiness, and goals.
Do certain medications require an in-person visit prior to prescribing? In some situations, yes. For safety and appropriate monitoring, certain medications—including GLP-1 receptor agonists and select psychotropic medications—may require an in-person assessment prior to prescribing, even if much of your ongoing care can be virtual. However, certain medications, such as GLP-1 receptor agonists require monthly visits as part of best practices. Further details can be provided at your initial consultation.
GLP-1 Medications and Whole-Person Care
What is Dr. Julia’s philosophy? Dr. Julia practices whole-person psychiatry—integrating emotional health with neurobiology, lifestyle medicine, and medical contributors that can influence mood. Treatment is built in steps, starting with foundational supports and then thoughtfully expanding as needed.
Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide or tirzepatide? Sometimes—when clinically appropriate and always as part of a stepped approach to care. In some cases, a whole-person evaluation includes exploring metabolic health when it’s meaningfully intertwined with mood, energy, and overall wellbeing. If it fits your needs, GLP-1 medications may be discussed as part of a stepped approach, alongside foundational supports. TideandMindDO is not a weight loss clinic—these medications are never the focus of care and are considered only when they support your broader psychiatric and medical treatment plan.
Do you prescribe GLP-1 medications for weight loss? GLP-1 receptor agonists are not prescribed routinely or as first-line treatment. When they are considered, it is within an integrated, evidence-based plan and after a comprehensive evaluation. Decisions are made collaboratively and may involve coordination with your primary care clinician or other medical providers. Medication is not offered in isolation.
Policies and Transparency
What is your cancellation policy? Appointments require advance notice for cancellation or rescheduling. Missed appointments or late cancellations may be subject to the full session fee. Specific policies are reviewed prior to scheduling.
Do you have any financial relationships with labs or referral clinicians? No. Dr. Julia does not receive kickbacks, referral fees, or commissions from laboratories, diagnostic services, or other clinicians. She also has no financial interests in the clinicians or practices to whom you may be referred. Recommendations are made solely based on what best supports your care.
Safety and Urgent Needs
Is this practice appropriate for urgent or crisis care? No. TideandMindDO does not provide emergency or crisis psychiatric services. If you are experiencing a psychiatric emergency or are at risk of harm to yourself or others, please call 911, 988, or go to the nearest emergency department.
